Mystery theft of dead moose

Published onsdag 26 juni 2013 kl 15.51
Not the moose in question

Police in the far north of Sweden are working a rather unusual case. Sometime in the early hours of Wednesday, a dead moose was stolen from a roadside near the town of Arvidsjaur.

The moose was killed in a traffic accident during the night. The local hunting license holder, who is also entitled to any game killed in traffic in the area, was called to the scene, but found the moose had been removed.

"Probably somebody has pulled the animal body up onto the road and then transported it away in a vehicle," Erik Johansson of local police tells the news agency TT.

The moose thief is still on the loose, and police is asking the public for help.

According to the holder of the hunting license, the dead moose is worth about SEK 7,000.
