Swedish police have arrested three men after NHL defenceman Tobias Enström was attacked and robbed in his home town of Örnskjöldsvik on Friday, reports agency AFP.

A witness told local newspaper Örnskjoldsvik Allehanda that the 28-year-old Winnipeg Jets player was seen withdrawing money from a cash machine shortly before midnight. When the witnessed returned five minutes later, Enström was lying on the ground.

"I don't have a clear picture of his injuries, but he had to get medical attention," police spokesman Stefan Edin told reporters.

Enström has now left hospital.
