Sweden increases aid to Syria
Sweden has decided to increase support to Syrians affected by the war there, the Swedish Development Cooperation Agency, Sida, has announced.
The funds will be channelled through the Swedish Red Cross as well as the UN Children's Fund UNICEF, and be directed toward emergency relief as well as education efforts.
The Red Cross money will be used by the Syrian Red Crescent, a part of the Red Cross family, whose Secretary General was in Sweden recently to appeal for help. The Red Crescent is one of few organisations which is widely present in the war torn country.
Sweden's total support to Syria last year was SEK 248 million according to Sida.
