Convicted paedophile part of large network
A 33-year-old man was convicted to six years in prison by the District Court in Gothenburg Friday for several cases of sexual abuse of twelve different girls, reports TT News Agency.
The man was a so-called elite user in an international online paedophile network.
Police tracked the 33-year-old after tip-offs from German police last year about the online network that was administered by another Swedish man.
The investigation into the role of the administrator will take at least until the end of this year.
The man who was convicted today was one of 40 elite users of the network. When police raided his home in March, they found over 15,000 pornographic pictures of children and 380 movies on his computer's hard drive.
Some of the material was photographed and filmed by himself. Between 2008 and 2103 he made contact with twelve girls, all under the age of 18, on the internet. He persuaded the girls to pose for him and subsequently recorded and spread the material in the network.
The prosecutor in the case, Per-Erik Rinsell is pleased with the verdict.
In addition to child pornography crimes, the man is convicted of raping a 13-year-old girl and aiding in sexual abuse.
