Government drops new public ownership model

The government is scrapping its controversial proposal for a new ownership model for state-owned companies.

Finance Markets Minister Peter Norman tells the financial newspaper Dagens industri that the plan is being dropped after it was rejected by opposition Social Democrat leader Stefan Löfven.

The government, which has come under criticism for selling off state interests in companies and the outsourcing of local public services like schools and healthcare, had wanted to transfer public companies from direct government control to state holding companies.
