A five-year-old girl who went missing in the Dalarna region on Sunday has been found dead, tabloid Expressen and other media outlets report.

The body was found by a lake on Monday morning.

"It is most likely the girl. She has been identified by her clothes but we will have someone look at the body and identify it. The parents have been notified," police spokesman Bo Eriksson told Expressen.

The girl was last seen at a playground near her home in Avesta on Sunday afternoon.

Police, along with volunteers from the home guard launched a big-scale search for the girl on Sunday evening when she was reported missing by the mother.

The organisation Missing People were also contacted.

Police said there were no initial signs of a crime behind the disappearance of the girl, who was of Somali origin. However, they will launch a forensic investigation as well as a murder investigation.
