A new type of foot cuff equipped with improved GPS capablities will be introduced this fall by the Swedish Prison and Probation Service.

The electronic tags currently used by prison officials can only reveal if the offender remains inside his house. The new devices will allow prison authorities to also track the movements of the offender when he or she leaves their house.

The improved function of the foot cuff is likely to mean that tags will be an option for more prisoners on leave, or those soon to be released.
