Robbers used a wheel loader to break into an electronics store in Södertälje, south-west of Stockholm, in the early hours of Tuesday, ramming the heavy vehicle straight into the entrance.

It is still unclear whether one or several people were involved in the robbery or what, if anything, was stolen from the store, a branch of the Mediamarkt electronics chain.

When the police arrived at the store, the robber or robbers had already escaped and are now wanted for grand theft.

The area around the store has been cordoned off while the police completes a forensic investigation.

Several displays, some containing mobile phones, were reportedly crashed and police found a few items outside the store, news agency TT reported.

At least one person had their car tyres punctured after driving over traps which the police believe the robbers threw out as they escaped from the scene.
