A flare-like type of fireworks that is banned in some countries is the biggest single security problem at Swedish sports arenas, according to newspaper Svenska Dagbladet.

Bringing the colorful flares and rockets into sports stadiums has been forbidden since 2009, but that hasn't stopped their frequent use by spectators.

Björn Ericsson, who has been charged with finding new ways to stop sports huliganism, suggests that some safe and legal fireworks should be permitted in the stadiums, which may cause the use of illegal pyrotechnics to diminish.
