Police are warning tourists to be on the look out for ghosts in central Stockholm.

The apparitions aren't especially scary, but police suspect that they are relieving onlookers of their wallets. The ghost crews, believed to be responsible for a series of pickpocket incidents, have until now not been caught in the act by police.

"I would advise that you keep them at a distance," City Police Commissionner Gunnar Thun told Dagens Nyheter.

Pedestrians have encountered the ghosts, whose faces are painted white, in areas popular with tourists, such as the Old Town and on Drottningatan.
