Swedens Winner Emelie Öhrstig(c) 2nd placed Lina Andersson (l) and Anna Dahlberg fourth(front)

Sweden won gold, silver and bronze, all in one day , at the Nordic World Ski Championships on Tuesday, but while there was joy for the women in the sprint, there was disappointment for the men’s defending cross country sprint champion Thobias Fredriksson.

Fredriksson finished with a bronze, nearly 7 seconds behind the front two.

But Sweden took gold and silver in the women’s sprint event. Emelie Öhrstig reached the podium for the first time in her career to take gold, and fellow Swede Lina Andersson edged out Canada’s Sara Renner to take silver.

Öhrstig said ” Everything was as i hoped for in my dreams. The sprint was my goal - I thought i had a chance at the medal.”
