Swedish Taxes to be Reviewed
A new task force has been launched to review this country’s taxes, which are among the highest in the world.
Finance Minister Per Nuder will head up the panel, which will take into account the growing needs of welfare, the force of growing global competition and the fact that Swedish firms are moving abroad to cheaper nations. Guidelines given to the panel include remarks that future tax hikes should not be excluded since the aging population means the welfare state needs even greater support. The task force is due to present its first conclusions by mid-2005, with a final plan due by January 2007 by the latest.
