Workers leave Saab's carmaking plant in Trollhättan

General Motors will announce at 1.30 today( 12.30 GMT ) whether Sweden or Germany will be its new centre for building midsize cars in Europe as the US carmaker strives to cut costs.

The announcement will be made at Saab’s plant in Trollhättan in Southern Sweden.

GM has refused to be drawn on speculation that the contract will go to Ruesselsheim in Germany. Currently both plants in Sweden and Germany produce midsize cars, but late last year, GM said that only one of its european plants would be used to produce the cars.
