Prominent female politicians and union leaders launched a new feminist network called Feminista, saying Sweden was ”far away” from being a truly equal society.

The announcement came on Tuesday, International Women’s Day.

The founding members include Social Democratic party chairwoman, Marita Ulvskog and Sweden’s ambassador to Brazil, Margareta Winberg, a former minister for gender equality.

The group wrote in the newspaper Aftonbladet, ”We want the same rights and the same respect as the male part of the human race. If laws are needed - then we will demand them.”
