At the turn of the year SEK 14 billion worth of old 1,000 and 50 kronor bank notes were taken out of circulation. Swedes have been encouraged to turn in the old notes before January first, but a whopping SEK 3 billion worth of, now invalid, bank notes remains unclaimed, news agency TT reports.

You can still turn in old notes at a local bank for free up until February 28th, after which the banks will start charging a fee of SEK 100 to accept the old notes.

The old 1,000 and 50 kronor notes lack the new foil strip on the lefthand side and new notes that have the foil strip has replaced the old ones.
