The two tabloids Aftonbladet and Expressen have published opinion polls which show a strong lead for the red and green parties - 16 percentage points ahead in Expressen on Friday, and 12 percentage points ahead in Aftonbladet today.

Mikael Sundström, political scientist at Lund University, says that it's tougher for the Alliance to win over swing voters this time because the Sweden Democrats has snatched roughly ten percent in the polls.

"It's very hard to get re-elected for a third time because people are getting tired of the government and they long for some sort of change. It's very reminiscent of the last Social Democratic government. They were doing very well economically but they lost the election. Many have ascribed that to people being tired of Göran Persson and his government," Sundström says.
