A 44-year-old Halland man has been sentenced to five years in prison, for crimes that include drugging and raping young men in his apartment.

He was the former local leader of the Swedish Federation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Rights (RFSL).

The man was sentenced for raping men who were staying with him. He's was also found guilty of forcing the victims to offer sex in exchange for drugs and lodging, and of stealing money from RFSL Halland's bank account.

The man used his position in the LGBT rights group to take advantage of the men, reports Swedish television news. A spokesperson for RFSL Halland said that the case had hurt the group's image.

"This is one person's actions, but we have to get our members to trust us again," said Mattias Uhrberg, press officer for RFSL Halland.
