Israel recalls ambassador
Israel has removed its ambassador from Sweden and is considering downgrading diplomatic relations, reports Israeli paper Haaretz.
Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman has been sharply critical of the Swedish recognition of a Palestinian state, calling it a "deplorable" decision that will strengthen extremists.
Now Israeli ambassador Isaac Bachman has been recalled from Stockholm "for consultations" and as to make a serious protest against the Swedish government's decision.
"This indeed reflects our irritation and annoyance at this unhelpful decision which does not contribute to a return to negotiations," said Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesperson Emmanuel Nachshon to news agency AFP.
The Israeli embassy will be left without its ambassador for an indefinite period, reports news agency TT.
