The authorities in Gävle are adopting new tactics to protect this year’s Christmas goat. Standing some 13 meters high, the goat has been erected in a central square annually for almost 50 years. And more often than not, vandals have set fire to the straw goat.

Increased surveillance and fire retardants have failed to protect the goat, so this year the local authorities are moving a local taxi stand to the square, hoping the presence of more people in the area evenings and on weekends will discourage the vandals.

This year’s Gävle Christmas goat will go up on November 30th.
