Eric Saade and Paradise Hotel-Samir to fight it out in Melodifestivalen
Veterans such as Marie Bergman and Jessica Andersson will compete against newcomers like Viktor and Samir, and opera singer Rickard Söderberg in the first two qualifiers in next year's Melodifestivalen, Swedish television SVT announced today.
Fourteen artists were presented in total Monday, and the final 14 in the 28-strong line-up will be presented tomorrow.
Marie Bergman made her Melodifestivalen debut in 1971, as part of the group Family Four, and also won the competition in 1972 and 1994. Next year she will sing the song "Nonetheless" together with Danish legend Sanne Salomonsen.
Other familiar names in the line-up include Jessica Andersson, who won as part of Fame in 2003, Magnus Carlsson, who has competed seven times in the past, and Eric Saade, who came third in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011 with "Popular".
Newer names in the line-up include Idol singer Mariette, with a song written by Swedish singer-songwriter Miss Li, as well as docu-soap celebrity Samir in the duo Viktor and Samir. They had a big hit this summer with their song "Success".
Melodifestivalen is the contest to decide Sweden's entry in the Eurovision Song Contest, and is this country's most popular tv show.
