A majority of Sweden's local mayors want Stockholm's Bromma Airport to stay open, according to newspaper Dagens Samhälle.

The newspaper polled 164 heads of local councils across Sweden, and a large majority, 85 percent, say they think the airport should not be closed.

However, 62 percent also said a closure would have little impact on their region. The vast majority of flights to Bromma are domestic, and it is popular among businessmen.

The new Social Democrat/Green/Left/Feminist Initiative Stockholm city council wants to close the airport, and to build new housing on the site. The new national Social Democrat/Green government has agreed to look into the issue.
