A bear called Pekka will be auctioned off this weekend, three decades after he escaped from a zoo and caused panic in western Sweden.

In 1981, Pekka disappeared from the Mariebergsskogen zoo in the city of Karlstad. Staff members at the zoo failed to catch the bear, who was 11 years old at the time. In the end, police shot Pekka, who was subsequently stuffed.

Pekka has been kept in a garage for over three decades, but has now been brought back into the open and is to be auctioned off on Sunday, local newspaper Värmlands Folkblad reports.

The starting price for the stuffed bear is SEK 30,000 to 40,000.
