The Swedish weather service is warning of icy roads throughout much of Sweden Monday morning, especially western, central and parts of northern Sweden, following rain and snow over the weekend and a drop in temperatures.

There have already been several traffic accidents on the black ice.

"We're trying to prevent accidents by salting the roads, but that's not always enough," a press officer for the Swedish Transport Administration tells Swedish Radio News. Peter Behrmann says that people need to be vigilant and aware of the road conditions.

Even though temperatures are expected to rise as the day progresses, Sofia Söderberg, a meteorologist at the weather service, tells Swedish Radio News that smaller, local roads could still be slippery.
