A Swedish military veteran says there is closer Nato cooperation than is openly admitted.

Speaking out in the feminist magazine Bang, reserve officer Sigrid Aliki says Swedish personnel in Kosovo were treated like Nato soldiers, even wearing Nato flags on their uniforms.

Bang also publishes an internal memo from the Swedish delegation to Nato's conference in August, which states Nato cooperation has gone from "nice to have" to "need to have."

The memo is also quoted as saying the closer Swedish relationship with Nato was pushed "from behind the scenes" together with Norway and the USA.

Sweden has taken part in Nato operations in Kosovo and Afghanistan as a member of the wider Partnership for Peace Nato project. It recently became an inner member of that group, as well as agreeing to support Nato forces , who are allowed to work on Swedish territory.

Polls suggest the majority of the Swedish public are against Nato membership.
