The whole of Sweden is frozen – and in the south rain turned to ice is coating the roads.

Early on Christmas Day clouds dropped sleet over the far southern county of Skåne, reports news agency TT.

The Transport Administration says drivers in southern Sweden should take extra care.

The islands of Gotland, which had been seeing wet and mild weather, also should expect snow flurries.

And in central Sweden, towards the coast, there will be clouds of snow blowing over the roads, meaning poor visibility, says meteorologist Therese Fougman.

But most of Sweden is enjoying clear skies, although strong winds and clouds carrying plenty of snow are expected in the far north.
