Starting in 2015, a fresh batch of banknotes and coins will be entering circulation in Sweden as around 2 billion old coins and over 300 million banknotes will be swapped for newly minted ones.

The banknotes will have new motifs and improved security features. The new coins will be smaller and lighter than the old ones.

In October, new SEK 20, 50, 200 and 1,000 bills will be released. They feature Swedish celebrities like author Astrid Lindgren, poet and singer Evert Taube, film director Ingmar Bergman and former UN secretary-general Dag Hammarskjöld.

In 2016, new 100 and 500 krona bills featuring actress Greta Garbo and opera singer Birgit Nilsson will be released. One and five krona coins will be replaced with new ones, and a new two krona coin will be introduced.
