Concern over testosterone prescriptions
There is concern about the increase in prescriptions for medicines containing the drug testosterone, Swedish Radio News reports.
The medicine is primarily intended for men suffering from disorders with hormone imbalances, such as chronic heart disease or rheumatism. But it is increasingly also being prescribed to reduce the effects of aging, such as weaker muscles and declining sex drive.
The concern is that this could lead to increased blood pressure or heart problems.
According to the National Board of Health and Welfare some 15,000 men in Sweden have had prescriptions issued for testosterone.
