Gothenburg City Airport to close
Gothenburg's second airport is to close as restorations would be too expensive.
The airport was used by airlines such as Ryanair and Wizz Air until November last year, when a routine check-up of the taxiways found that the ground under the airport could not support the weight of the heavy planes. Airport owner Swedavia has since carried out a full-scale survey of the site, and says the cost of upgrading the airfield is too large, and has therefore decided to close the airport.
Over 850,000 passengers use the airport annually. Much of the air traffic has since been transferred to the larger Landvetter airport.
