Apple and Ericsson sue each other
The Swedish telecoms equipment maker Ericsson and the American multinational computer giant Apple are suing each other.
Ericsson said Wednesday it has filed a complaint in a US court over Apple’s use of its technology in smartphones and tablets, saying its licence has expired. This follows Apple filing a suit against Ericsson on Monday, claiming that the Swedish company’s LTE (4G) patents are not essential to industry standards, and Ericsson was demanding excessive fees.
Last year Samsung paid Ericsson USD 650 million along with a years of royalties to end a technology licence dispute.
Ericsson filed its suit in Texas, while Apple filed its complaint in California.
