Raif Badawi, saudisk bloggare.
Writer Raif Badawi is being punished by the Saudi monarchy, which enforces its extremist "Wahhabi" version of Islam.

The Swedish government delivered a protest today to Saudi Arabia's embassy, against the public lashing of blogger Raif Badawi.

Badawi was sentenced to ten years imprisonment and a thousand lashings for "insulting islam" by a court in Saudi Arabia. A range of other governments, including USA, Canada, Norway and Germany have already criticised the punishment.

The Swedish foreign ministry says it was the Saudi embassy's chargé d'affaires that received the protest.

Saudi Arabia is Sweden's largest trading partner in the Middle East.
