Problems with the Swedish police's computer system means that official statistics about traffic accidents are not reliable, according to the Swedish Transport Agency.

The official statistics are based on police reports and also hospital records, but the number of reports from the police has fallen markedly, due to technical issues with their computer systems. That means that if the victim of a car accident does not go to hospital, then the accident may not be registered.

That could cause problems for traffic planning.
