One of the most notorious spies in Swedish history, Stig Bergling, has passed away, newspaper Dagens Nyheter reports.

Bergling was convicted of treason and was sentenced to life in prison in the 1970's for having leaked extremely sensitive military secrets to Soviet during the Cold War.

He was pardoned and released in 1997 after having served half of his sentence.

Bergling was struggling with Parkinson's disease at the time of his death, Dagens Nyheter reports.
