Identity theft to become a criminal offence

As more and more Swedes are falling victim to identity theft, when someone buys goods or services in their name, Justice Minister Morgan Johansson (Social Democrat) is vowing that a new law to criminalize it.

He tells Swedish Television News that there is a loophole in the current law, and that they will propose a law to fix this in the fall.

The national center against fraud welcomes the news, saying it will make it easier for them to start preliminary investigations into identity theft cases, and also that it will send a strong signal.
