Unusual accident stops metro escalators
Several escalators in the Stockholm metro system have been shut down following an accident at the Östermalm station.
One of the steps of the escalator broke and a woman got her leg stuck. She was trapped for over an hour until she could be freed. She was later taken to hospital with leg injuries.
Engineers are now looking at the escalator to see what went wrong, and as a precaution all escalators of that model in the underground have now been switched off.
They can be found at Östermalmstorg, T-centralen, Slussen, Skanstull, Mariatorget, Zinkensdamm, Hornstull and Midsommarkransen stations, news agency TT reports.
