A decade ago a smoking ban inside restaurants and bars was introduced. Now, the government wants to step up the fight for a smoke-free Sweden in more public spaces.

Social Democrat Minster of Public Health Gabriel Wikström wrote in newspaper Dagens Nyheter Wednesday that the proposals for further smoking bans include bus stations and train platforms, playgrounds and outside dining areas at restaurants.

He tells Radio Sweden that in the past eight years,100.000 Swedes have died because of smoking. The government talks about the possibility of a smoke-free Sweden by 2025.

Other proposals are to forbid advertising or making tobacco products visible in stores and to mandate neutral packaging.
