Traffic chaos after west coast snow
After a snowstorm hit the west coast last night, there were still large amounts of snow, stranded commuters and vehicles crisscrossing the roads during the day Tuesday. Transportation problems were expected for most of the day.
At midday there were still major disruptions in the Gothenburg tram traffic, delays in bus traffic, and reports of blocked roads. Train traffic had begun again. Flights from Landvetter airport were cancelled until 8 am on Tuesday, but there were delays of up to two hours afterwards, Swedish Radio News reported.
At midday there were still comprehensive delays reported on Västtrafik's website.
"We can expect that it will be difficult on the road most of the day," said Jens Holmberg, a spokesperson from the Swedish Transport Administration.
The band of snow clouds is expected to move east during the course of the day with snowfall tapering off. Warnings for heavy wind issued by the weather service SMHI have been lifted.
