Around 50 vehicles got punctures on Tuesday morning after men suspected of burglary threw tyre spikes out onto the E4 motorway in an attempt to evade capture.

Eight men were later arrested over the incident, which caused chaos to commuters travelling close to Arlanda Airport.

The burglary took place at a phone shop in the early hours of Tuesday morning, TT news agency reported.

Police spokesman Lars Byström told Swedish Radio officers arrived on the scene quickly after the alarm was triggered and were able to stop a number of cars and make the arrests despite the suspects throwing the spikes out onto the road.

A large number of vehicles’ tyres were punctured by the spikes and traffic came to a standstill, Byström said.
