The week-long live charity broadcast set a new record raising almost 50 million kronor.

Musikhjäplen is an annual collaboration between Swedish Radio and Swedish Television that raises money for an important cause. This year’s donations will go toward the right to schooling for children in conflict areas.

There were 312,000 individual donations made and 60,000 song requests throughout the marathon, which raised SEK 49 003 745. It surpasses last year's figure of SEK 31 105 000.

The five most requested songs in Musikhjälpen 2016 were:

  1. Utan Dina Andetag - Kent
  2. Eternal Love - Magnus Carlson
  3. A Christmas Duel - The Hives & Cyndi Lauper
  4. Goliat - Laleh
  5. Bara Få Va Mig Själv - Laleh

The three celebrity hosts for the marathon were lead singer of the Hives, Howlin' Pelle Almqvist, singer Josefine "Little Jinder" Jinder, and comedian and presenter Kodjo Akolor.
