World’s Largest Cross Country Festival
Silas Sang of Kenya won the men’s 30 kilometer race Saturday at the Lidingöloppet, the world’s biggest cross country festival.
Sang took the lead near the halfway point and held on to clock 1 hour, 37 minutes, 39 sseconds. Defending champion Lena Gavelin of Sweden won the women’s 30K in 1:58.39.
Now in its 41st year, the weekend festival on the Stockholm suburb island of Lidingö features 27,000 runners from about 30 countries, including a number of races for children and young people on Sunday.
