Women Excluded from Soccer Video

Outrage has been expressed here over a promotional video prepared by the Swedish Football Association.

When it was unveiled at a marketing conference in Stockholm during the weekend, not one sequence showed women playing the game.

While the Swedish national men’s soccer team is ranked tenth in the world by FIFA, the women, who took silver at the 2003 World Cup, are currently ranked sixth. But none of the women who starred in that silver team are depicted in the video.

According to the newspaper “Norrbottens-Kuriren” both men and women at the conference called the omission a scandal. The video’s producers claimed there wasn’t enough film available of women’s soccer, and that the companies who will be targeted aren’t interested in the women’s game.
