Subway Slowdowns After Union Leader Fired

Published fredag 30 september 2005 kl 11.39

The company running the Stockholm subway system has fired the outspoken head of the local union.

Union leader Per Johansson has strongly criticised safety concerns on the underground trains, such as broken emergency telephones and missing fire detectors.

Connex, which operates the subway underground in the capital for the county authorities, says Johansson has been dismissed for a lack of loyalty and insulting behavior, but denies his criticism was responsible.

Following the dismissal there have been slowdowns and a shortage of trains in Stockholm’s subway traffic, as drivers have refused to work overtime.
