"Dancing Molecules" in Metathesis

The 2005 Nobel Prize in Chemistry goes to Yves Chauvin of the Institut Francais du Petrole in France, and two Americans, Robert Grubs of the California Institute of Technology and Richard Schrock of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

They been honored for the development of the metathesis method, now  used in the chemical industry for the development of pharmaceuticals and advanced plastics.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences says their work represents a great step forward for producing environmentally friendlier products, as well as for the creation of drugs to treat diseases like Alzheimer’s, AIDS, and cancer.
