Six Hour Working Day Abandoned

Published fredag 7 oktober 2005 kl 10.52

Kiruna, above the Arctic Circle, is abandoning its 16 year experiment with shorter working hours for its home-help service, people who travel to the homes of the elderly to take care of cleaning, cooking, and other household chores.

The 250 home-help employees in Kiruna have been working 6 hour days, because it was thought they would be in better health for their difficult job. But studies have not found any improvement.

Another reason for the change, according to Swedish Radio News, has been criticism from other municipal employees who didn’t get their working hours shortened.
