Obesity Increases Risk of Dementia

Published tisdag 11 oktober 2005 kl 12.21

According to a new Swedish study, obesity, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol levels at midlife each double the risk of dementia later.

Subjects who suffer from all three multiply their risk of developing dementia six times compared to people free of the risk factors.

Published in the online edition of the “Archives of Neurology”, the study was carried out by researchers at Stockholm’s Karolinska Institute. Nearly 1500 subjects who took part in a study that began in 1972 were reexamined.
