Children Witness Domestic Violence: Not a Crime

Published torsdag 3 november 2005 kl 12.12

Sweden’s Supreme Court has ruled that it is not a crime when children witness domestic violence.

The ruling comes after a case in which a man made his three sons watch as he beat their mother.

The man has been charged and sentenced for the beating, but the court did not feel it was illegal for the children to witness the beating.

There have been strong reactions against the ruling, including from children’s ombudsman Lena Nyberg, who wants the laws involving such situations reviewed.
