Political allies: Germany's Schröder and Sweden's Persson - here, at a summit meeting 2002

Outgoing German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder is in Sweden today for a meeting with Swedish Prime Minister Göran Persson. The two leaders held a working dinner at Persson’s home in Harpsund, southwest of Stockholm.

The outgoing Chancellor’s visit comes directly after the national convention of Germany’s Social Democratic Party paid tribute to Schröders seven year chancellorship.

Sweden featured heavily in Germany’s recent election - with political candidates from various quarters using the Swedish tax system - Sweden’s reformed pension system and labour laws as possible models for future reform in Germany.
