Systembolaget Criticised For "Extravagant" Party

Published torsdag 17 november 2005 kl 13.24

Sweden’s state alcohol store Systembolaget is coming under heavy criticism once again. This time for spending over one and a half million dollars on a party celebrating the company’s 50th anniversary.

The party took place just days before several former Systembolaget store managers went on trial for bribery.

Systembolaget, which has a monopoly on retail sales of wine, strong beer and spirits in Sweden, has been undergoing a cost-cutting programme in which at least 80 people are losing their jobs.
