EU Demands Turkey to Follow Agreement

Speaking here in Stockholm Thursday, the European Commissioner for Enlargement repeated the demand that Turkey respect its customs agreement with the EU.

Commissioner Olli Rehn said that having kept its word to open membership talks on time, the EU expects Turkey to allow Cypriot vessels to enter Turkish ports.

Despite signing a protocol in July extending its customs accord with the EU to include the union’s 10 new members, Turkey says it will not open its harbors and airports to traffic from Cyprus until international restrictions on the breakaway Turkish Cypriot enclave are removed.
