Child Pornography Web Filters

Published fredag 25 november 2005 kl 10.58

The Swedish police say that filters to block access to child pornography web sites are working.

According to the newspaper “Svenska Dagbladet” every day 20,000-30,000 attempts by Swedes to gain access to such sites are stopped.

The project began in April this year, bringing together the police; ECPAT, an organization fighting the sexual exploitation of children; and Internet service providers. Access to more than 1000 child pornography sites on the police list are blocked by the ISPs.

The head of the Swedish section of ECPAT says the number of attempted visits to child pornography sites is “grotesque”, even if some of those being blocked are trying to access those sites by mistake.
