Gay Bishop: Vatican Misunderstands Homosexuality

Here in Stockholm Thursday, the first openly gay bishop in the Episcopal Church said unity in the Anglican Communion is being challenged by those who oppose the ordination of homosexuals.

Bishop Gene Robinson is on a six day visit to Sweden at the invitation of Carolina Krook, the Lutheran Church of Sweden Bishop of Stockholm. Krook says she extended the invitation because Robinson has long thought through the theological aspects of controversial issue of homosexuals in the clergy.

Gene Robinson’s election in 2003 as Episcopal Bishop of New Hampshire has caused deed internal splits within the Anglican community.

Commenting here Thursday on a Vatican document barring practicing gay men from becoming Roman Catholic priests,  Robinson said it shows a profound misunderstanding of homosexuality.
